The Year 3 topic overview can be found here. This explains everything that the children in Year 3 will be doing this term.
What a great Autumn Term! Here are some of the activities we got up to.
The visit to Grin Low Wood.
Our first trip out this year! A fascinating walk around Grin Low Wood finding out about how the wood provides
habitats for plants and animals as well as being a brilliant place for humans to enjoy the local countryside.

Autumn Watch - ARTWORK |
|
We worked in our groups to create our stunning Autumn leaf litter artwork. We hope you like them.

Roald Dahl Day
We all had a go at creating our own Master Twit or Miss Twit in the style of Quentin Blake. What do you think?
Our fantastic archaeology morning
We learnt how to be archaeologists, make stone-age arrows, weave, make bracelets out of teeth (!) and grind flour by hand. It was a busy morning but a brilliant way to learn about the past.
Creating our Celtic Roundhouses
During our research, we learnt that the walls of the Celtic house were made from wattle and daub. We used paint and sand! It was messy but fun.
Making Christingles at St Peter's Church
our finished Celtic roundhouses.
It was wear a Christmas Jumper Day when we completed our houses! But we still worked hard to cut accurately and glue carefully. We are very proud of our results - we hope you are impressed too.
Our Winter Wonderland Performance
We wowed everyone with our snow themed songs, facts and poetry.
Our Ancient Egyptian Topic
Our Curriculum event was extremely popular! The classroom was full of parents and grandparents. The children sang a gruesome song about how to make a mummy and then became the teachers as they showed their guests how to create their own Cartouche. A great way to end our Ancient Egyptian topic.
I hope you are impressed with our Egyptian collars. Having learned about Tutankhamun's most famous death mask, the children created their own collars. Choice of colours, repeated patterns and fine motor skills are all skills that the children used to create these wonderful collars. Oh and a little bit of mindfulness!
Here are a few of our clay amulets. Scarab beetles and the Eye of Horus were popular choices.
Our wordles!
Year 3 have been learning about the Bible and how it is used. They created Wordles in their groups using their own choice of words, which they felt described what the Bible means to Christians. They had to order their words from most important to least important by working together, making decisions and sometimes compromises!
Working together
Not only were we learning how to work with someone in order to create our Robots - as part of our school PSHE theme on Relationships but we were also having a lot of fun! A great way to start our next literacy topic based upon The Iron Man.
World Book Day
Can you guess which characters we are? The answers are in the clues, the costumes or... the book itself! We had great fun.
Science week in year 3
During an exciting week, we investigated magnets; made our hair stand on end and picked up paper without touching it and solved a burglary using forensic evidence! We discovered a few budding scientists and detectives, too.
OUR poetry day
We had a wonderful day writing poems with Andy and drawing illustrations with Martin. The children shared their poems with each other and with year 4. Both Andy and Martin were impressed by their imagination and enthusiasm. Excellent!
.
Year 3 had a fantastic trip to Tunstead Quarry. We donned all the protective gear and set off on an adventure that included giant trucks and explosions!
Guess which countries we are pointing to on our globes and marvel at our Crazy Continents art work!
A sunny visit to Pavilion Gardens in preparation for our Geography Topic - Photographing OS symbols in order to locate the places on maps at school; checking out what the Gardens have to offer the visitor in preparation for writing an information leaflet.... Oh and having fun with friends!
