World War 2 Day
In Year 6 we went back in time to 1939 and remembered life during World War II. The the children all came to school dressed as Evacuees from this era and arrived with their clothes, gas mask boxes and identify labels. During the course of the day, the children created evacuee labels, a 'make do and mend' Christmas decoration and even took part in taking the 'necessary precautions' before the air-raid siren went off by taping the windows. We all found shelter when the air-raid siren went off!
We finished a very enjoyable day, by sharing what the children have learned in their topic lessons, at a World War II assembly for parents and grandparents.
A huge thank you to all the parents who attended and we hope you took home a few World War facts!!

SPring 1
During Spring 1, Year 6 will be writing non-chronological reports which are non-fiction texts that give information about a particular subject. It is called non-chronological because the information doesn't have to be ordered in the way that things happen. So we will be researching facts about the rainforest including the effects of the palm oil industry on the rainforests of the world.
Our class text is Holes by Louis Sachar, a fantastic story about Stanley Yelnats, a boy who has bad luck due to a curse placed on his great- great-grandfather, is sent to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention camp, for a crime he did not commit. Stanley and the other boys at the camp are forced to dig large holes in the dirt every day.

Year 6 Animal Vistors!
This week we had some very special visitors in our school. As Year 6 are finding out all about Rainforests, Paton from Zoolab brought in some very exotic animals including a snake, cockroach, gIant land snail, millipede and even a scorpion! We all got a chance to hold the animals (if we wanted to). They felt really weird especially the snakeskin! We found out lots of interesting facts from Paton including the fact that Cockroaches can live up to a week without its head!

Andy Tooze - Poetry workshop
This week, the poet Andy Tooze visited FEJS and held some poetry workshops with children in Years 5 and 6. Andy began by asking us to write 20 words about a subject of our choice. Some of us chose football, some chose animals although one poem was 20 words about lemons!! Then we talked about how we could use a repeating line in a poem. We shared our ideas by doing mini performance and then had an assembly at the end of the day. We had so much fun!
